The World War II Memorial is a recent addition to the National Mall, fitting seamlessly at the eastern edge of the Reflecting Pool.  While under construction, many wondered how a new monument would fit among the established architecture and scenery.  The answer is wonderfully!  The WWII Memorial is a fitting tribute the finest generation - those who sacrificed during WWII.  In addition to columns signifying all states and territories that contributed to the war, there are scenes of the era as well as historic wartime quotes etched into the wall.

For another spectacular experience, you must visit this monument after dark.  Lit in soft tones, the tall columns are accented and the fountains exclaim the beauty of the monument.  The warm lighting sets the earthy-tones apart from the brighter-white-lit Lincoln and Washington Monuments.
