It’s amazing how many new places you get to check out when you don’t have an office or internet service set up in the new home yet…  My most recent search for Wi-Fi hotspots took me to The Buzz, a quaint little coffee shop and bakery near Old Town Alexandria.  This was a logical choice since my latest cravings seem to be café mochas.  Maybe it’s simply being in DC that tends to turn people into coffee drinkers.  Nevertheless, The Buzz features a very good selection of freshly baked goods, breakfast quiches, a daily rotation of unique cupcake and pastry flavors, and free Wi-Fi!

The service is extremely good, the workers are nice, and there are plenty of outlets and power strips for computer use.  Only a couple of drawbacks as far as I can see; the place is somewhat small (I count approximately 35 seats, 15 of which are placarded with “no laptops here”) but I visited during the lunch hour on a Friday afternoon and had no problem finding a seat next to a power outlet.  There are also several seats outside that provide a relaxing atmosphere (as long as the weather is good, of course.  Secondly, on a subsequent visit in the early morning hours (around 7 am), the internet seemed to be down.  One of the workers told me that they “have problems with it from time to time” so I’m not sure of the reliability of the connection.  A positive is that they are open from 6 am to midnight every day so you could satisfy your sweet tooth with a morning pastry or a late night cupcake!

Overall, I rate this establishment very high due to its friendly service, free Wi-Fi and power outlets, proximity to both Old Town Alexandria and Crystal City, and very tasty food and drinks.  Definitely give it a try!
