TDY to the Washington, DC Area

King Street Metro Station, Old Town Alexandria, VA
Many US government civilians and military service members will find
themselves on temporary duty (TDY) to the Washington, DC
Metropolitan area. Washington, DC can be a confusing and an
overwhelming place to the uninitiated. This page is a guide
with information on what to do, how to get around, and where to eat
while you are TDY.
Check out our new Free Wi-Fi Hotspots Guide for
Washington DC.
Expensive Hotels
Your first challenge is finding a hotel room at a convenient
location below the maximum government lodging rate. Check the
Per Diem Rates (official
website) and find out what the max lodging rate is for where you
are staying - note: rates may be different if you are staying in DC,
Virginia, or Maryland. If you know when you are coming TDY,
make your hotel reservations well-ahead of time -- area hotels book
quickly, especially around holidays or special events -- you don't
want to be stuck out at Dulles Airport when you have a meeting at
the Pentagon.
