Abraham Lincoln Memorial
Closest Metro stop:
Foggy Bottom - GWU Anchoring the western end of the National Mall, the Abraham Lincoln Memorial is one of our favorite monuments to visit and photograph. During holiday weekends and especially summertime, the Lincoln Memorial will be swarming with visitors. From the top steps, you can look out across the reflecting pool towards the Washington Monument - this is a popular dramatic photo opportunity. Additionally, you can see the Lincoln Memorial from the Korean War Memorial; framing the soldiers here with the Lincoln Memorial in the background can make a wonderful photo. For a truly dramatic experience, we recommend you visit the Memorial at night. The exterior is brightly lit and Lincoln's statue on the inside is lit more softly for effect. Some of the best photos of this monument are taken at sunset or shortly thereafter.
